Ecuador's national team sees a rise in domestic violence during World Cup matches. ECU 911 reports a 34% increase in emergencies related to domestic violence. In June of this year, ECU 911 coordinated the attention of 6,523 emergencies related to this type of violence, a 9.5% increase from the same month in 2025. The provinces where this increase was most registered were Pichincha, Guayas, and Esmeraldas. ONU Mujeres' representative in Ecuador, Miriam Bandes, states that violence tends to rise during major sporting events. The organization has launched a sensitization program to address this issue. Violence is one of the three pillars that ONU Mujeres will maintain in its new strategic note for Ecuador, a four-year plan agreed upon with the Government, civil society, and in line with international agreements.
