Rodney Redes, Guaraní winger, terminated his contract with Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito and will return to Olimpia Paraguay. The exit occurred in February, when the Ecuadorian club signed him on loan with an option to buy, now discarded.
According to Argentine communicator César Luis Merlo, a specialist in transfer markets, Redes' return to Villa del extremo colmenense is a surprise for the Olimpia world. The player, who also has experience in Austin in the United States, was signed by Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito in February on a loan agreement until December with an option to purchase. That option has now been discarded.
Redes played 27 matches for Liga de Quito, in the Ecuadorian Serie A, Copa Libertadores, and Copa Ecuador, scoring three goals. Despite a strong start and scoring in his debut, the Paraguayan's performance did not reach the expected levels, according to the club's assessment.
The main reason for the rescission is that the league needed to free a foreign slot to bring in Argentine Lucas Rodríguez. In the assessment, the Paraguayan was “drawn” to leave, as his performance did not meet expectations.
Since the Paraguayan transfer book closes only on Monday, there will be no problem registering in Decano. In Villa, Redes has shown good performance and is expected to bring quality to Olimpia's attack.
Redes' return to Olimpia comes at a key moment, as the most decorated Paraguayan club seeks to strengthen its squad for the season. With Redes' departure, the club opens space for the addition of Lucas Rodríguez, who is expected to strengthen the forward line.
Merlo's statement highlights that the decision to rescind the contract was made jointly between the player and Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, and that the return to Olimpia will be formalized in the coming days.
With Redes' arrival, Olimpia aims to consolidate its position in the league and in international competitions, while the player prepares to return to compete in Villa del extremo colmenense.
