The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) confirmed the participation of the Tricolor in the Copa Kirin, one of the most traditional friendly tournaments in Asian football. The tournament will be held in Japan between October 1st and 5th and will bring together four national teams from different confederations: Ecuador, Japan, Panama, and New Zealand.
The Tricolor will open its participation on Thursday, October 1st, against the host, Japan, at the Yokohama Stadium, in a match that will mark the Tricolor's debut in the Copa Kirin. According to the result of that match, Ecuador will return to action on Monday, October 5th, at the Tokyo National Stadium, where it will play the final of the tournament or the third-place match against Panama or New Zealand.
The presence of Ecuador in the Copa Kirin is part of an Asian tour that also includes a previously confirmed friendly match against South Korea. That match will be played on September 24th at the Suwon World Cup Stadium and will mark the beginning of a series of three international matches during the September and October FIFA window.
In the statistical aspect, Ecuador and Japan have a balanced record. Both teams have faced each other five times, with two victories for the Asian team, two draws, and one win for the Tricolor. The most recent encounter ended in a goalless draw in 2022. Against South Korea, the record is much shorter. Ecuadorians and South Koreans have met twice, with one victory for each team. The last encounter was played in 2010 and ended with a 2-0 victory for the Asians.
With this international schedule already confirmed, Ecuador will seek to take advantage of the challenge of facing rivals from different continents to evaluate new options, strengthen collective performance, and arrive with a solid foundation at the start of the next official challenges.
