Marcelo Gallardo is on the verge of becoming the new technical director of the Ecuadorian national team. The former River Plate coach, who is currently free after leaving the club, is preparing to take over the Tri, where the team is looking for a new coach after the departure of Sebastián Beccacece.
According to Bolavip, in recent hours, a long meeting took place between the Federation of Ecuadorian Football (FEF) and the Argentine coach. In the meeting, a sports agreement was reached to take charge of the senior team, but it is still not finalized.
What is left to officially appoint Napoleon as the new DT of the Tri is the financial and logistical details. If these are aligned, everything will be on track for Gallardo to start his path as a national team coach, leading a country that recently competed in the last World Cup.
So far, the Muñeco has only worked at the club level in different countries. His path began in Uruguay, where he coached Nacional. He then had a successful stint at River, which lasted eight years. After a brief period at Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, he returned to River, where he failed to repeat the success of his first cycle.
Prominent Players in Ecuador
If he takes over, Marcelo Gallardo will have some of the best players at his disposal in the Ecuadorian national team. Just for example, he would be coaching: Moisés Caicedo, Willian Pacho, Piero Hincapié, Gonzalo Plata, Hernán Galíndez, Pervis Estupiñán, Kendry Páez, Alan Franco, Enner Valencia, Angelo Preciado, Jordy Caicedo, among many others.
